The 18th Chinese Bridge – Chinese Proficiency Competition for Secondary School Students: Toronto Regional Preliminary for Students in Ontario and Manitoba, Canada

II. Title:

The18th ChineseBridge –ChineseProficiencyCompetition forSecondarySchool Students: Toronto Regional Preliminary for Students in Ontario and Manitoba, Canada

III. Competition Theme: Fly High with Chinese

IV.Purpose:

  1. To provide a platform for young people to learn the Chinese language and enhance their language skills while encouraging mutual learning and exchanging experiences.
  2. To ignite students’ interest and passion for learning Chinese, promote the language, and deepen their understanding of the fascinating and diverse Chinese culture.
  3. To provide unwavering support for the teaching and learning the Chinese language overseas, encouraging students to embrace this valuable skill.

V.Program:

Speech in Mandarin: Focus on participants’ integrated knowledge of Chinese language skills. (70%)

 Talent Show: Performance of Chinese songs, music, dancing, opera, acrobatics, instrument, calligraphy, drawing, paper-cutting, Kung Fu and so on. (30%)

VI. Participants Requirements:

According to the requirements set by the Center for Language Education and Cooperation, the eligibility criteria for participants are as follows:

 Participants must be between the ages of 12 and 18, hold Canadian citizenship, have spent their formative years outside of China, and currently be secondary school students in Canada.

 Neither the participants nor their parents should have Chinese as their native language.

 Contestants who participated in last year’s global finals are generally not eligible to compete again for two consecutive years.

VII. Timeline:

 Preliminary Contest Dates: Between March 1, 2025, and April 26, 2025

 Final Contest in Toronto: May 4, 2025

VIII. Awards:

One First Prize, two Second Prizes, three Third Prizes, and several Excellence Awards

Judges are invited from academic institutions and associations.
